How Will I Know When the Areas Affected by Water Damage are Dry?
I am going through the drying process in my home after some significant water damage. How do I know when the areas affected by the water damage are dry?
Drying out water damage depends on three things:
- The amount of saturation
- The amount of time your home has been exposed and
- The extent of the damage
Your home may appear to be dry to the touch after the constant use of dehumidifiers and household fans, but just because the moisture is not visible, doesn’t mean it is not present. Simple drying techniques are often not enough when removing water after a flood.
At Roto-Rooter, we use state-of-the-art drying equipment, which we leave onsite at your home or business for hours and days at a time. And we conduct moisture tests as we complete the water clean-up process.
Our moisture tests are used when drying out water damaged homes to ensure the structural integrity is not comprised. The moisture tests not only examine the affected areas, but are used to compare conditions in areas where we are working to the unaffected areas of your home so we can be sure to restore affected areas to normal levels. Moisture tests are particularly important in the dehumidification and drying of wooden structures such as 2x4 stud walls because excess moisture can lead to decomposition and rot.
Our restoration equipment is removed only when the temperature, humidity and testing confirms that affected areas have been dried to approved standards.
It is very important to remember that even after your home or business is dry, it still needs to be cleaned and disinfected. Your carpet, walls and floor coverings are porous, which means a basic surface cleaning will not suffice. All surfaces affected by water damage must be thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and deodorized in order to properly eliminate mold, bacteria, fungi and other viruses.
Roto-Rooter’s prompt and professional water damage restoration professionals are trained and certified to get your home back in working order as quickly as possible.
